• Job Search Support - Metro College provide job search support for all its graduates. The support includes generating a master resume, customize a resume for a specific job posting, practicing on interviews and analyzing an actual interview. This will increase the number of interviews and help students pass the real job interviews.
• Internship, Co-Op service, and Research Projects - Metro College provides graduates who need work experience in their field of study through its Work Experience Program and co-op placement service. Those students who want to get longer work experience are encouraged to participate in a research project in their field of study. This will remove the barrier on their way to be employed.

As you might already know, it is very important to make good first impression to your interviewer and potential boss. It is a one-time opportunity to get the job or lose it. At Metro College of Technology we support our students throughout the studying and job search process. Here are some recommendations to job seekers: 

• Dress for success – Dress professionally to your interview. Know the standards in the industry and, if possible, for the particular company. Dress more conservatively than you might dress for work in that organization. You may even need to purchase an appropriate interview outfit when your job search heats up. Note: no jeans, t-shirts or mini-skirts. Say yes to a suit, jacket, dress pants or mid-length skirt and a dress shirt. • Create a career portfolio – Be in constant readiness for interviews by creating a career portfolio that includes:
  – Extra copies of resume and references
  – Copies of degrees/diplomas/certificates
  – Transcripts and relevant course information
  – Samples of past work, copies of awards and other forms of recognition
  – Copies of recommendation letters and notes of appreciation
  – Copy of job description 
• Make it on time – Allow extra travel time beyond what the interviewer estimates! Even when you arrive at the location, sometimes it is difficult to find the right floor and office. You can waste time wandering in the wrong direction. Some people make a practice run before the interview or simply use Google map https://www.google.ca/maps to estimate approximate travel time. If you drive, check the parking available in the area. Ask human resources manager for parking spot on premises. Don’t leave this questions unsolved;

Is graduation fast approaching? Be prepared to enter the job market in 10 steps:

STEP 1 – Resume Consider yourself a brand and your resume a sales letter that outlines your knowledge, skills, abilities and experience! Review and revise your resume, make sure you have an eye-catching resume that grabs the attention of employers by following Resume Tips.

Verbal communication involves the performance of several skills such as listening, interpreting, reasoning and articulating, often at the same time. STEP 5 – Elevator Pitch An Elevator Pitch is the perfect tool to have in your arsenal during your job search! Create the Perfect Elevator Pitch that you can use whenever the opportunity arises, e.g.-networking, interviews, etc.

STEP 6 – Network Develop Your Professional Network Today! Employers have more confidence in job applicants who are referred to them by a common friend/employee/acquaintance. Grow Your Professional Network of contacts, inform them of your job hunt, and access this hidden job market!

STEP 7 – Pre-Interview Preparation Prepare for your job interview, research the business and the details of the job advertisement. Practice your interview skills, and prepare for potential questions and answers.

Many job openings are not available in traditional job boards, instead employers often try and find referred candidates. A candidate who has been referred for a job interview has already passed several standard competencies for the specific job opening (at least based on the opinion of the referring individual).
